With the release of the latest EverQuest(tm) expansion, Omens of War(tm), a new set of "Epic Quests" have been added for every class which takes the questor (and companions) throughout the entire world of Norrath and alternates planes of reality. Each quest is divided into two parts. At the end of the first part the questor, it is believed, will receive an initial reward known as the Epic 1.5 reward. At this point it is assumed the questor can continue on for a much greater reward and the final Epic 2.0 weapon. The division is believed to allow the more casual gamer to achieve the Epic 1.5 while the more hard-core raiding guilds in the upper end content can continue the Epic 2.0. Developers on the Omens of War team have stated that the Epic 1.5 was designed around encounters requiring six or less groups. We'll let you be the judge as to whether this is really feasible for some of the more casual playing characters.
This document is focused upon the new Magician Epic Quest 1.5 and 2.0 and is a work-in-progress while the quest is being solved. The information contained in this document comes from a variety of sources as well as my own personal experiences as I attempt to complete this quest. I try to be as honest as I can about areas that seem grey and at the same time give as much guidance as possible.
Heavy credit for most of the content in this site goes to the magician community at The Mage compendium. When this epic quest was first released, my grandmother suffered a severe stroke and I spent more time at the hospital and less playing EverQuest so I didn't get a chance to find some of this out for myself. This is not meant to take away from the work done by the magicians in that community, nor is it meant to be a carbon copy of their write-up. I have added in my own notes as I can find them and links to external sources that I feel provide myself a helpful cross-reference ability for this quest. The majority of the quest text that I have not completed came from the Mage Compendium community.
As I continue to complete this quest I hope that it will deviate farther and farther away from the writeupe at the Mage Compendium. I did not just copy and paste this information. A good portion of this information came from looking through the forums at the site. I just want to make this clear because I want no one to believe I violated their copyright. This is all typed by hand and organized in a way I feel makes the most sense to me.

There are two ways to begin the new Epic quest for the Magician. The first is to complete the original Epic quest and achieve the Orb of Mastery. The second involves an initial subquest. This subquest is automatically skipped for players who have completed the original epic quest.
There are both advantages and disadvantages to this system. The original Orb of Mastery quest itself can be an extremely long, drawn-out process and often expensive if a magician needs to purchase the Crown of Elemental Mastery if they do not have a group capable to reach the 7th island in the Plane of Sky. It is important to note, however, that there is a required level on the epic 1.5 of 65. Skipping directly to this quest at 45, 50, 55, etc., holds no benefit as the user will not be able to weild the weapon. In this case, I would highly recommend completing the original epic quest to kill the time during those levels.
On the other hand, if a magician is already 65, it seems rather impractical to ask them to complete a quest that takes some magicians year(s) to complete. Some magicians will feel like their hard work has been trivialized as they had already completed the Orb of Mastery quest. You can't please everyone, however.
If you have not completed the Orb of Mastery quest and do not intend to do so, continue onto the next section to learn how to forego the first epic quest through a small subquest. Otherwise, skip to the Epic 1.5 quest directly.

Throughout the quest, you will become quite familiar with a small gnome located in the library inside the Plane of Knowledge. This gnome's name is Bantil Io'Tuv. If you have not completed the initial epic quest, Bantil will instruct you on another way to prove you control the elements rather than following Magi'Kot.
Quest Text:
You say, 'Hail, Bantil Io`Tuv'
Bantil Io`Tuv says 'Greetings. I am looking for someone who has followed in the footsteps of Magi'Kot, but you do not seem to have progressed that far. There is [another way] for you to prove your control of the elements to me.'
You say, 'Another way?'
Bantil Io`Tuv says 'Well, there are 4 Elementals that have gone rogue. They escaped from their elemental planes, and I fear they may be planning some mischief. They have assumed new names, so look for a Wildfire Elemental, an Earthquake Elemental, a Tsunami Elemental, and a Monsoon Elemental. Hand them this vial when you find them, it will allow you to fight them, and also capture them once they are beaten. Return them to me so they can be handled correctly.
Bantil will hand you a Vial of Elemental Binding at this point from Bantil and you have now been charged with recapturing four escaped elementals from the elemental planes who are now scattered throughout Norrath.
The four elementals can be found in the following locations. Initially they are indifferent to everyone and cannot be engaged by melee or spells. This is where the Vial of Elemental Binding comes into play. In order to capture the elemental you must hand it the vial in order to be able to engage the elemental. The elemental will turn faction to "_______ scowls at you, ready to attack" and engage you. You will need friends to take down these mobs. I am unsure if you receive the Vial of Elemental Binding back immediately after you turn it into the rogue elemental, or if you must loot it from the elemental's corpsea long with its captured version.
Below is a list of the four elementals, one of each elemental type, and the item required. These elementals can be engaged in any order. You must obtain all four captured elementals before heading back to Bantil Io'Tuv. For more information on the location of these elementals, see the NPC Reference:
Air: | Swirling Monsoon Elemental | Drops Captured Monsoon Elemental
Earth: | Trembling Earthquake Elemental | Assumed to drop Captured Earthquake Elemental
Fire: | Raging Wildfire Elemental | Assumed to drop Captured Wildfire Elemental
Water: | Ravaging Tsunami Elemental | Assumed to drop Captured Tsunami Elemental |
Turn the four captured elementals back to the Plane of Knowledge library and hand them to Bantil Io’Tuv. At this point he will begin prompting you on the next stage of the Staff of Elemental Essence quest (Epic 1.5).
NOTE: In order to fulfill the quest for the Epic 2.0 reward, you must first complete the Epic 1.5 in its entirety as Epic 2.0 is confirmed to be a continuation of this quest past the initial Staff of Elemental Essence reward.
To begin this quest you must have either completed all of the steps above or completed your entire complete Epic 1.0 (Orb of Mastery). If you completed the alternate quest, you will already be familiar with a recurring character throughout the entire plot. Otherwise, you will be getting your first introduction to the gnome who will become one of your best friends by the end. Continue to the next section to begin the official Epic 1.5 quest.
Bantil Io'Tuv is a little male gnome who has made his home in the library in the Plane of Knowledge. You have already met him if you completed the alternate introductory quest. The text below is triggered by a person who has already completed the Orb of Mastery quest. I imagine that the initial text from Bantil may be altered slightly if you completed the alternate quest instead. As I completed my original epic, I cannot verify this. Pickup this text wherever you are prompted when you hail him.
Quest Text:
You say, 'Hail, Bantil Io`Tuv'
Bantil Io`Tuv says 'Greetings. I see you have followed the path of Magi'Kot, quite some time ago he was my teacher. I was sad to hear of his fate. He was a great man, he understood the elements in a manner that few have before him. I was glad to hear that his legacy lived past his demise, and I am happy to meet someone that has followed in his [footsteps].'
You say, 'I followed his footsteps'
Bantil Io`Tuv says 'Magi'Kot strove to push the limits of knowledge, however few know that he was more of a researcher than an innovator. His strongest attribute was the ability to gather knowledge and derive patterns and trends from the teachings of summoners before him. Since his untimely death, I have learned the [source of his research] on elemental mastery.'
You say, 'What is the source of his research?'
Bantil Io`Tuv says 'There have been elemental masters for as long as there has been magic. There are many great magicians whose names have been lost to history. I recently learned that Magi'Kot gained access to some of these ancient teachings. This is how he learned the path to elemental mastery. His other disciples and myself thought this knowledge was gone forever, until we learned that the original tomes were stored here, in the [Great Library].'
You say, 'Where in the Great Library?'
Bantil Io`Tuv says 'There is little that has ever been written that has not, or will not, sit on the shelves here. Sadly, when I finally managed to make it here, the tomes were missing. No one seemed to know where they have gone or why. I have been searching for clues telling of where these tomes vanished to, and finally, the [pieces] are starting to come together.'
You say, 'What pieces?'
Bantil Io`Tuv says 'I am hesitant to use the word conspiracy, however the more I find, the more that seems to be the best choice. I found this note while searching for the tomes. I suspect it may lead you to finding the first of the missing tomes, sadly I do not recognize the language.'
Bantil Io’Tuv will give you A Tattered Note. The note cannot be ready by any player character, but it was discovered this note was written in Akhevan, the clue that the first step of your journey will take you into Akheva Ruins on the moon, Luclin. From a lore stand point, opening the note gives the following message:
Mages at the Mage Compendum found a translation for the text above to be: "The enemy will be blasphemy. The shadows will guard me."
The person you are searching for is deep into Akheva Ruins and her name is Danvi. Most unfortunately, you will arrive too late to actually speak to the poor little dark elf as she has already fallen to the enemy. Her corpse can be found in the most North-east room in Akheva. There are no spawns in this room. With enough hit points, a magician can make the run in to spawn all the traps before running back invis to loot the item. It is much safer to bring a group. When I did this part, a necro friend of mine ran ahead and spawned all the traps then feigned death. As soon as his "enemies had forgotten him" (aggro wiped) the traps would despawn and I could run through. Respawn on the traps is around 6 minutes. Of course, this item itself cost me 2 deaths with myself and 3 deaths with my cleric.
While you are too late to save Danvi, you can loot her corpse (see the Zone Reference for a map of Akheva with Danvi's corpse location marked) by targeting and typing the command /open and the either right click or use /loot. If someone has already /open-ed her corpse, you will just need to /loot. She was carrying the Journal of Magus Tvish when she died. Danvi's corpse will re-spawn in 1 hour 55 minutes. Similar to the chest in LDoN adventures, you have any aggro with any mobs at all you will not be able to use the /open command. Since there are no spawns in this room, simply camp out and come back to clear all of your aggro.
Once you have acquired the journal, return back to Bantil Io'Tuv and hand him the Journal of Magus Tvish.
Quest Text:
Bantil Io`Tuv focuses for a minute, his hands glow with power. He then blows softly and the shadows melt from the Tome. As he opens it a small note falls to the floor. What is this? it appears to be some sort of correspondence. Hmm, interesting, it seems the next tome was given to a gnome, he set sail somewhere, but has not been heard from in quite some time. You will have to find him, he was supposed to wait for [Danvi] so he could take the tome.
You say, 'Who is Danvi?'
Bantil Io`Tuv says, 'Danvi is supposed to identify herself with the password "Violet Roses", when you find this gnome tell him the pass phrase and he should give you the book.'
The gnome that Danvi was supposed to met set sail to the continent of Velious. Unfortunately, the gnome ship he was sailing on encountered trouble and never made it to the dock in Iceclad. Instead, it wrecked just off the northwest coast of Western Wastes. The name of the gnome you are looking for is A Lost Tomekeeper.
Quest Text:
You say, 'I am Violet Roses'
A Lost Tomekeeper says, 'Oh? Yes. The tunips blow clockwise, or something or other. Here you go. Stay diligent. The enemy may be anyone.'
A Lost Tomekeeper will hand you the Tome of Primal Fires. He will not despawn so he should always be on the shipwrecked boat unless someone has killed him (if he's even aggro-able).
Take the Tome of Primal Fires back to the Plane of Knowledge and hand it to your good friend (by now), Bantil Io’Tuv and he will continue the story of why the tomes you are seeking are so important.
Quest Text:
Bantil lo`Tuv quickly thumbs through the book. You can see the excitement growing on his face. 'This is incredible. I can see why Magi'Kot was able to learn so much from these tomes. There are just three more that we need to find, and we will be able to [ascend beyond] Magi'Kot's greatest dreams.'
You say, 'Ascend beyond?'
Bantil lo`Tuv says, 'Oh my! Where has my mind been? I haven't even told you what these tomes are capable of. As you can see, I have mastered the orb as well. I have long suspected that this is not the pinnacle of elemental power, these [two books] prove it beyond any doubt. With the power present in the orb, the teachings I learned from Magi'Kot, and the knowledge from the tomes, I suspect we should be able to figure out how to reach the next level. Magi'Kot would be so proud!'
You say, 'What two books?'
Bantil lo`Tuv says, 'Oh! I am sorry, I get so excited sometimes. Yes, the next two books. I've found some information alluding to their whereabouts. The first was hidden in another great library, somewhere across the "Frightened Abyss". Whatever that means. The second is in the protection of someone studying the mental effects of horror.'
Bantil Io’Tuv gave two hints in his last statement as to the whereabouts of the next two tomes: “Frightened Abyss” and “studying the mental effects of horror”.
Frightened Abyss is a literal synonym for the Timorous Deep, which separates the continent of Kunark from the other lands of Norrath. The closest library to Timorous Deep is just off of the port city (Outpost) in The Overthere, namely, the grand library of Charasis (a.k.a. Howling Stones). Charasis is a keyed zone which will be required for this part of the quest. The quest is very simple however and any mage working on this quest should be able to easily complete it solo.
The tome from Charasis is called the Book of Bindings and Incantations. This item is a ground spawn in the east hallway of Charasis, across the fake staircase. There are two ways to get to the east, using levitation to run across from either the north or south staircases to the east, or clearing the zone to receive the appropriate keys needed to take you to the east side. The tome itself sits on top of a table in the east hallway (see image below). The ground spawn will reappear after 2 hours. For the actual location of the groundspawn, see the Charasis map in the Zone Reference.
Note: Some mages have claimed to do this solo, but I found taking someone along who can mez dead mobs to be helpful. Once again, I brought along my necromancer friend and my cleric. It took about 20 minutes to complete after making into the east wing.
The second tome is more difficult to attain. You will need to travel all the way through The Deep (Zone Reference) to the Thought Horror Overfiend and through his room towards the zone to Ssraeshza Temple. Before you get there, there are many Elder Thought Horrors, even if the Thought Horror Overfiend himself is not up. These mobs hit for 500s. Take a group or two with you. You will need the help anyways.
Near the Ssraeshza Zone, Grigor Rohja spawns, red con at 65. This mob can be very difficult and will required at least one or two groups to defeat him, perhaps more depending on equipment. He hits for around 1000s and has a 2000 PBAE. He is invisible, so you will need See Invisibility active to find him. Kill him and loot the Codex of Ice and Ether. He respawns after 2 hours.
Turn in the Book of Bindings and Incantations and the Codex of Ice and Ether to Bantil Io’Tuv back in the Plane of Knowledge to receive information about the final tome.
Quest Text:
Bantil lo'Tuv says 'Ahh great, thank you. There are some interesting notes in these books. I suspect soon we should be able to find who is responsible for the disappearance in the first place.
Bantil Io`Tuv says 'Oh my. Oh this is most disturbing news. It appears that one of Magi'Kot's apprentices was responsible for the theft of these books. This may not be the end of the story. Magi'Kot had four apprentices. Jahsohn Aksot, Akksstaff, Walnan and myself. There are notes in some of these letters that no one but one of his apprentices could have known. Speak to the others please, but be discreet, I sense something much larger at work here, return to me with anything you find.'
Magi’Kot’s three apprentices are references to three quest NPCs from the first epic quest, the Orb of Mastery:
Note: To avoid complication, these steps should be done in this exact order.
Quest Text:
You say, 'Hail, Jahsohn Aksot'
Jahsohn Aksot says 'Greetings, ________ .
You say, 'Bantil sent me.'
Jahsohn Aksot says 'You are working with Bantil? I hope you had some luck finding the books. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help you. Bantil is a friend, despite his gnomish heritage.'
So far, Jahsohn seems to check out as pretty trustworthy.
Quest Text:
You say, 'Hail, Akksstaff'
Akksstaff says 'What do you want?! Foolish [Questor's Race], I am in no mood to treat with beggars. I have half a mind to turn Jobober here loose on you! Well, don't keep me waiting, state your business or be off with you!
You say, 'Bantil sent me.'
Akksstaff says 'Bantil was always a good friend. I'm afraid I cant be of any help to you. Good luck to both of you.'
Boy, Akksstaff wasn't very helpful, was he?
Quest Text:
You say, 'Hail, Walnan'
Walnan says 'Hallo __________ ! I am Walnan, elementalist, summoner, wanderer, and sometimes teacher. Might you be a elementalist in search of the truth?
You say, 'Bantil sent me.'
Walnan says 'How is good old Bantil doing? I'm afraid I don't have any information for you, but if I hear anything I'll be sure to tell you. Oh, you may want to speak to Akksstaff again, he and Bantil never quite saw eye to eye, you may want to ask him about Bantil again.'
Walnan doesn't seem to think Akksstaff is being as helpful as he could be...
Quest Text:
You say, 'Bantil sent me.'
Akksstaff says 'My, you are persistant aren't you? Well you have found more trouble than you expected, now haven't you? Prepare to witness the true power of a master of the elements!'
At this point, Akksstaff’s Minion will spawn, an earth elemental who hits for 1147 and casts EarthElementalStrike2. When Akksstaff’s Minion’s health approaches 85% - 80%, nine adds spawn named Host of Akksstaff (apparently he has the host of the elements ability on steroids). These hit for 477, but can be mesmerized by both bards and enchanters, as well as mages with Elemental Silence.
Once all 10 of these mobs have been defeated, Akksstaff will confess a startling revelation with regards to the original epic quest and plead for you to spare his life (coward).
Quest Text:
Akksstaff says 'How is this possible? I cannot be defeated. Spare my life and I will tell you the truth of Magi'kot's [demise].'
You say,'What about the demise?'
Akksstaff grins. 'I am the last Council Member of the Order of the Elemental Shadows. For Centuries, we protected the true secrets behind elemental mastery, but our sect dies here with me. I chose to sit at Magi'kot's side and watch his progress, he showed more promise than anyone since Tvish. When I learned he was to receive the Orb of Mastery, I sabotaged his spell. The flaw was not his, but now people have succeeded where he failed. It doesn't matter, even with the power of the Orb and the knowledge in these tomes, Bantil will never unlock the full power of elemental mastery. You are only helping him to meet the same fate as Magi'Kot.' He then hands you the book and fades into the shadows.
Akksstaff will hand you the book, Sentience of Elements, which is the last tome that Bantil Io'Tuv requires. Respawn on Akksstaff is 30 minutes. There is no treasure chest reward for this encounter.
Once again, head back to Bantil Io'Tuv in the Plane of Knowledge and hand him the final tome, Sentience of Elements.
Quest Text:
Bantil Io`Tuv says 'Akksstaff was responsible for our teacher's death? That is truly sad news. I knew he was devious, but I never suspected this type of betrayal.' Bantil takes a deep breath as he regains his composure, and he starts to browse through the book. 'This is truly amazing. I don't think Magi'Kot ever had access to this... No, of course he didn't. He never would have believed the Orb of Mastery was the pinnacle of [power] if that was the case.'
You say, 'What power?'
Bantil Io`Tuv says 'It seems that the Master of Elements is both the key and the lock before the next level of understanding. He is an amalgam of four equally powerful elemental beings. The essence from these four elementals will serve as the catalyst for ascension beyond the power of the Orb. Sadly, the texts tell nothing of the location of these four creatures, but I suspect that the gatekeepers to the elemental planes may be able to help us locate them. If you can, please head to Tranquility and ask the guardians of the Elemental planes about the Elemental Essences.'
The guardians to the elemental planes exist outside of their respective elemental planes in the Plane of Tranquility. Each of these is a named drake. Asking each one about their elemental essences will yield a clue as to where to find their respective elemental essence. You need to collect all four elemental essences to continue.
These essences can be obtained in any order, but to initiate each individual essence subquest you must first speak with the proper drake or else you may or may not be able to trigger the required quest text.
Sarhya the Dawnbreeze can be found outside of the entrance to Plane of Air in the Plane of Tranquility. Speak to her for more information about the Elemental Essence of Air.
Quest Text:
You say, 'Hail, Sarhya the Dawnbreeze'
Sarhya the Dawnbreeze says, 'It appears that you are ready to travel into the Elemental Planes. Beware many of the gods there have set up wards to protect them against assaults. Most I cannot speak about; however I do have information on the Circle of Protection that guards Xegony, in her [Plane of Air].' [Note: This is standard text for the Planar Progression quest and unrelated to the Magician epic]
You say, 'what about the elemental essences'
Sarhya the Dawnbreeze says 'You seek the elemental essences? It has been a very long time since I've heard them spoke of. I am afraid I cannot be of much help, except to tell you it often enjoys to whistle through valleys and canyons. I fear it may not even reside in this realm any longer.'
The Elemental Essence of Air is a triggered mob in Noble's Causeway (Omens of War). When you step on the trigger, you will see the following text:
Quest Text:
You hear the wind whistling around your head, and see a strange windswept trail appear before you.
At this point a magical path will appear, similar to when you use the Find option, and take you to the spawn point of the Elemental Essence of Air. This is always around (-1700, -1100) and is another trigger. However, the second trigger will not fire without the initial trigger and the text above.
This is a rough fight. Several times throughout the fight the main mob will despawn and spawn a series of adds. He will only reappear when all of the adds have been killed. The fight goes as such:
The adds hit for around 1400 and supposedly have a nice DD, DoT, Mana Drain and AE stun. No known person has completed this phase yet. This event can currently be “blown” by a non-mage or possibly even a mage who is just not ready for this part of the quest yet stumbling over the trigger. The timer to redo this trigger and event is only known to be hours.
When the Elemental Essence of Air spawns, he does not see through invisibility. There is a timer, guessed to be around 30 minutes. If the boss isn’t dead by that time, the event despawns and the mage must wait for the trigger to reset.
After defeating this boss, loot the Elemental Essence of Air.
Note: This event also spawns a chest with additional loot for those participating to help the mage finish this stage of the quest.
Tak’aal Emerald shard is found outside of the entrance to the Plane of Earth in the Plane of Tranquility. Speak to him for more information about the Elemental Essence of Earth.
Quest Text:
You say, 'Hail, Taq`aal Emeraldshard'The place where the geomancer’s “strength was last at its greatness” can be found in Mons Letalis on top of the spire. Once you have triggered the text with Taq’aal, the Elemental Essence of Earth spawns when you enter Mons Letalis. He is quite rough and quads for ~2000. He procs Earth Elemental Strike and casts Bury and Avatar Power. You will need several groups in order to defeat him. Loot the Elemental Essence of Earth from his corpse. Respawn on this event is stated to be instant but this is unconfirmed.
Note: This event also spawns a chest with additional loot for those participating to help the mage finish this stage of the quest.
Miak the Searedsoul guards the entrance to the Plane of Fire in the Plane of Tranquility. Speak to him for more information about the Elemental Essence of Fire.
Quest Text:
You say, 'Hail, Miak the Searedsoul'
Miak the Searedsoul says, 'Greetings again. I sense that you have the correct path for the portal to the Plane of Fire. If you simply touch the portal, I will channel it to open to the location in your mind.' [Note: This quest text is the standard response for the Planar Progression quest and unrelated to the Magician epic.]
You say, 'what about the elemental essences'
Miak the Searedsoul says 'Ahh the eternal search for knowledge, both bane and blessing to mortals. So, you seek the Elemental Essence of Fire? I have heard very little of it in many years, although, come to think of it, I have heard rumors of a powerful elemental trapped in the personal forge of Tagrin. I suspect that might be a good place to begin your search at the very least, but you'll need to find someone there willing to speak with you. Good luck seeker.'
If you have had the above conversation with Miak the Seardsoul, Gnapp Guinders will be wiling to speak with you in the Plane of Tactics.
Quest Text:
You say, 'Hail, Gnapp Guinders'
Gnaap Guinders says 'Ugh. Its dreadfully hot in here. Its been extra hot since Tagrin [upgraded] his forge.'
You say, 'How has he upgraded?'
Gnaap Guinders says 'Oh! Curious are you? Well I'm not going to tell you unless you get me out of here! And don't think you can just break my chains with some heavy weapons or some fancy hocus-pocus! Its going to take more than that to [break Tagrin's steel].'
You say, 'How do you break targin steel?'
Gnaap Guinders says 'If I knew that do you think I'd be here still? I thought you'd at least be half as smart as you look! Well, I have a friend that may be able to help us. Have you ever met Bor Wharhammer? Well if you have, good, go to him. If you haven't, find him. Bring him a hammer made by Tagrin so he can see what he's working with. He's really good at breaking stuff. Bring him this note as well, so he knows I sent you.'
He will give you a Note from Gnapp. Before you go see Bor Warhammer, though, you must first find a Diaku Forged Maul by killing Diaku in the Plane of Tactics. Once you have both the note and the maul, give both of these items to Bor Warhammer in the Plane of Tranquility. This is the same NPC who gives out the ornate armor quests for Planes of Power.
Quest Text:
Bor Wharhammer says 'Eh? I see ol' Gnaap 'as gotten' 'imself in'o a pickle again. Well le's see. I figu'e tha'ye need a good solven'. Ye'll need t'fin yer'self some metallic liquid, 'at'll make a fine suspension. Then fin' yerself some'un good wit' a brew barrel. Have'em mix tha' wit' sum 'ydro-lize'd ether, an' sum 'evy water.'
Bor Warhammer will give you a Reinforced Flask. The recipe he gives you is requires a brewing skill and is trivial < 100.
You will need the following ingredients:
Brewing Combine (in a brew barrel, Trivial < 100):
Reinforced Flask + Metallic Liquid + Hydrolyzed Ether + Heavy Water = Corrosive Solvent
Hand the corrosive solvent to Gnapp Guinders in the Plane of Tactics to help him free himself.
Quest Text:
"Ahh! I knew bor would come through for me!" He then drops a little bit of the solution on his shackles and the chains start to steam/ "FREEDOM! Now, I believe I owe you a favor as well. You were wondering about the power in Tagrin's forge. Well he trapped some huge elemental in there not long ago. I'm pretty sure with the last of this solution I have left, I could bust a hole in the side of the forge and let it out. Let me know when you are [ready] and we'll let the sparks fly."
[Note: The next line will trigger an event.]
You say, “I am ready”
This spawns the Elemental Essence of Fire that drops the Elemental Essence of Fire. It spawns supposedly in the Forge room in the Plane of Tactics and wanders into a lava bit before becoming rooted. You cannot engage this mob until he has made his path. He finds a resting place in a bubble of lava, so group members will not take damage and enduring breath is not needed for the fight. Upon failure, this mob will not despawn and more tries can be made immediately. It is unknown if it despawns after a long period of time.
The Elemental Essenc eof Fire hits for ~1500. His area effects include Flamewall and Pyrkinetic Hallucinations. The AEs are resistable, but it is uncertain as to what resist is needed (it's noted at 530 FR nothing landed)
Note: This event also spawns a chest with additional loot for those participating to help the mage finish this stage of the quest.
Jurmak the Undertow guards the entrance to the Plane of Water in the Plane of Tranquility. You should ask him about the elemental essences to see if he has any information.
Quest Text:
You say, 'Hail, Jurmak the Undertow'
Jurmak the Undertow says, 'The Elders say that you are now allowed to enter the Plane of Water. I shall allow you to enter, but I will not be responsible for whatever fate may befall you upon entry to this greater elemental plane.' [Note: This is the standard hail response associated with the Planar Progression quest and is unrelated to the Magician epic.]
You say, 'what about the elemental essences' Jurmak the Undertow says 'Oh? The Elemental Essence of water? That is what you mean, yes? Consider yourself fortunate, I know the location of the Essence. It has spent quite some time living as a minor god to the othmir.'
The othmir dwell in Cobalt Scar on the beaches. There are several camps. In the one on the north beach, the west-most camp I believe is the High Priest Margle. He sits inside one of the seashell huts facing the water. Speak to him about the elemental essence of water.
Quest Text:
You say, 'Hail, High Priest Margle' High Priest Margle says 'Hello! I am the High Priest for the little village. I am in charge of communicating with our [Water God], Tiknonmanin.'
You say, 'water god?'
High Priest Margle says 'Tiknonmanin is our one true god. He protects us when we need, and we give him tithing of fish and whatever else we find in the waters. I am the only one allowed to call him, but there are many who ask me to call him so they can give him their reverence. From time to time, someone comes to challenge him in combat. He is very confident in his power, especially this close to the water, so he allows anyone who wishes to [challenge] him.'
You say, 'challenge'
High Priest Margle says 'Well it has been some time. I guess I could allow a challenge, but you'll need to do something for me first. We've been having a tough time catching enough fish of late, and our bait supplies are running low. Bring us the meat from four ice burrowers. I'll call Tiknonmanin for you when you return.'
The ice burrowers spawn in Western Wastes. They are random mobs who wander the zone and are kill on sight to everyone. It is helpful to have at least dubious faction with the Claws of Veeshan to cut down on the dragon adds that wander this zone as well. Kill the Ice Burrowers until you have looted four Ice Burrower Meats. Turning these into High Priest Margle will spawn the water god, Tiknonmanin.
Tiknonmanin spawns north of the othmir camp in the water around location (+600, +165, -40) He casts Hates Fury, Whirlpool and Drowning Panic. He hits for about 360 (non-defensive warrior). He can be killed with one group if you have enough healing to counter the area effect. Loot the Elemental Essence of Water from his corpse. Tiknonmanin does not despawn on a failure, so the even can be redone immediately. There is no treasure chest for this encounter.
Handing the Elemental Essences of Air, Earth, Fire and Water to banil Io'Tuv will result in the quest reward for the Epic 1.5. There is no particle effect on this weapon.
Quest Text:
Bantil Io`Tuv says 'Very well done! You have accomplished more than Magi'Kot could have ever imagined.' He then reads a passage from one of the books. The elemental essences begin to glow and take shape. You are blinded for a moment with a flash of light, when your eyes clear he presents you with an ornate staff. 'You should be honored. You have done what few have even dreamed of. In creating this staff, it has become apparent to me that there is still [further] to go.''
In order to complete Epic 2.0 you must have completed all of the previous steps for Epic 1.5. After you received the Staff of Elemental Essence, Bantil Io'Tuv asks you if you would like to go further. This is where the continuation to Epic 2.0 begins:
Bantil Io`Tuv says 'Very well done! You have accomplished more than Magi'Kot could have ever imagined.' He then reads a passage from one of the books. The elemental essences begin to glow and take shape. You are blinded for a moment with a flash of light, when your eyes clear he presents you with an ornate staff. 'You should be honored. You have done what few have even dreamed of. In creating this staff, it has become apparent to me that there is still [further] to go.''
You say, 'further'
Bantil Io`Tuv says 'Yes, this item represents the peak of elemental power for this realm, but in its creation I was given the gift of a vision. I saw a brief glimpse of the true power of the staff, and the next level of ascension, the next stone in your path resides in Discord. My companion, Iilivina has spent some time studying the nature of magic there. She may be able to help you find what you need, show her your new weapon, hopefully she may have some insight into how this ties into Discord. You are in the midst of a great journey, good travels.'
Iilivina can be found in Dranik's Scar in the new Omens of War expansion.
Quest Text:
You say, 'Hail, Iilivina'
Iilivina says 'The magic here is quite unique. I am thrilled I've had the opportunity to study it.'
At this point hand Iilivina your Staff of Elemental Essence, which she will return to you.
Quest Text:
Iilivina says 'My goodness, I did not realize you were the one [Bantil] sent to me! This is truly amazing! I was shocked when Magi'Kot's dream had been realized. I never thought it would be surpassed. My, so much focused elemental energy. This is truly amazing. You have accomplished quite a feat.'
You say, 'bantil'
Iilivina says 'Yes, Bantil told me you would be coming. Perhaps we can help each other. There are two tribes of elemental beings here. They have an unprecedented ability to channel elemental energy. I have yet to see one with my own eyes, but they may just contain [power] that will help you unleash the staff's true power '
You say, 'power'
Iilivina says 'They use the elements in a way we have yet to understand. I suspect something in their essence that allows them to tap into the elements in a different manner than we understand. If my suspicions are true, these creatures should leave behind a small portion of their essence, when their spirits leave their bodies. If you find anything like that, bring it to me. They may be rather small, so bring me two from each type for good measure.'
You need to collect 2 Pyrilen Essences and 2 Gelidran Essences in the new zone of Riftseekers, which is a level-required zone of 69 or 70. Rumor is you will alos need to go into the keyed zone of Anguish which is considered end-game.
